IMF Central Bank Legislation Database (CBLD)
The IMF’s Central Bank Legislation Database (CBLD) is a repository consisting of legislation relevant to central banks; mostly central bank laws and excerpts of constitution, but increasingly the CBLD also contains banking, resolution, AML/CFT, and payments legislation. The legislation included in the CBLD is encoded under more than 270 categories, developed by a team of experts in the IMF’s Monetary and Capital Markets Department (MCM). The CBLD categories mirror the structure of more than ten central bank models created over the past decade, including granular attention for financial stability related functions. Click here for the overview of the CBLD’s categories.
Based on this categorization, the CBLD provides the capability to search the text of central bank legislation, and generate results for individual countries or groups of countries identified by region, income level, exchange rate arrangement, and monetary union. The CBLD also offers a law library with an extensive collection of the most current full text legislation.
The main purpose of the CBLD is to enhance technical cooperation and knowledge sharing between the IMF and member country central banks, by offering easy access to central bank legislation. In addition, the CBLD also facilitates and encourages research on central bank institutional and legal issues.
The CBLD is publicly accessible and is maintained by the Monetary and Capital Markets Department of the International Monetary Fund. For more information or questions, please contact the CBLD team at mcmcbld@imf.org.
